Before the clean: set your cleaner up to succeed
Most turnover problems aren't cleaning problems — they're information problems. Put the following in writing once, and share it with whoever cleans:
- Check-out and check-in times, and how you'll confirm each booking (a shared calendar works best).
- Access: key box location or smart-lock code, shared privately — never in a public task description.
- Where linen, towels, consumables and cleaning products are stored, and how many sets you keep per bed.
- Your standard: a few reference photos of each room as it should look for guests.
- What to do if something is broken, missing or the property needs more than a standard clean.
- Rubbish: which bags go out on which days for your locality, and where the bins are.
The room-by-room turnover checklist
Arrival and walk-through (5 minutes)
- Open windows to air the flat; switch the AC to a comfortable setting if it's hot.
- Walk through every room and photograph anything damaged, stained or missing before touching it.
- Check for left-behind items and bag them with the date.
- Strip all beds, including unused ones that may have been slept on.
Kitchen
- Empty the fridge of guest food (check your house rule on unopened items) and wipe shelves and door seals.
- Run and empty the dishwasher; check all crockery, cutlery and glasses are clean and put away.
- Clean the hob, oven front, microwave inside and out, kettle and coffee machine; descale when needed.
- Wipe counters, cupboard fronts, handles, splashback and the extractor hood.
- Clean the sink and tap, and remove limescale — Malta's hard water marks taps and glass quickly.
- Empty all bins, wash them if needed and fit new liners.
Bathrooms
- Clean the toilet inside and out, including the base and behind the seat hinges.
- Descale the shower screen, taps and shower head; squeegee glass.
- Clean the basin, mirror and any shelves; check drains for hair.
- Replace towels and bath mat; restock toilet paper, soap, shampoo and shower gel.
- Check the extractor fan works and look for early signs of mould in corners and on silicone.
Bedrooms and living areas
- Make beds with fresh linen, using mattress and pillow protectors; check under the bed.
- Dust surfaces, headboards, lamps, shelves and the TV; wipe remotes, switches and door handles.
- Empty wardrobes and drawers, and leave enough hangers.
- Vacuum and mop all floors, including under sofas and behind doors.
- Clean balcony furniture and sweep the balcony — sea spray and dust settle fast.
- Check the Wi-Fi works and the instructions are where guests will see them.
Final check (5 minutes)
- Restock welcome items, coffee, tea, sugar, salt, oil and dishwasher tablets.
- Check all lights work and replace dead bulbs.
- Close windows, set the AC or leave it off as you prefer, and lower the blinds in summer to keep the flat cool.
- Photograph every room for your records and send them to the host.
- Lock up and return keys to the key box.
Linen and laundry: the part that trips hosts up
Keep at least three sets of linen and towels per bed: one on the bed, one in the wash and one spare for a quick same-day turnover. Decide up front who handles laundry — your cleaner, a laundry service, or you — because washing and drying a full set inside a four-hour gap isn't realistic, especially in humid winter months when nothing dries indoors.
If your cleaner takes linen home to wash, agree on the price per set and how it's tracked. If you use the property's washing machine, budget the time and electricity, and make sure there's somewhere to dry it that isn't the guests' balcony.
How long a turnover takes and what it costs
A one-bedroom flat in good condition typically takes around two hours for a thorough turnover; add time for each extra bedroom and bathroom, and for a terrace or a very messy check-out. Being realistic about time is fairer to your cleaner and protects your reviews.

For regular turnovers, a recurring task or a Premium Airbnb turnover subscription saves you re-posting every week, and gives you one Hero who gets to know the property.
Damage, missing items and protecting your reviews
Ask your cleaner to send dated photos of any damage before cleaning it up — your short-let platform will usually want evidence and has its own time limits for claims. Keep a simple inventory per room so missing items are easy to spot.
Damage caused by a Hero during a job booked and paid on HomeHero is covered by our damage protection. Damage caused by guests is a matter between you, the guest and your booking platform.
Running a short let in Malta comes with licensing and tax obligations. Requirements change, so check the current rules with the Malta Tourism Authority and your accountant rather than relying on a checklist.
Frequently asked questions
How much does an Airbnb turnover clean cost in Malta?
On HomeHero, typical offers for Airbnb turnovers range from €45–€120 per visit, depending on bedrooms, bathrooms and linen. HomeHero Premium turnovers have a fixed price from €60 for a one-bedroom property (prices as of October 2026).
How long does a turnover take?
Around two hours for a one-bedroom flat in good condition is a reasonable starting point. Add time for each extra bedroom and bathroom, terraces, laundry, or a messy check-out.
Should my cleaner do the laundry?
It's up to you — agree it before you book. Many hosts keep three sets of linen per bed so the cleaner can make up beds immediately while the used set is washed separately.
How do I give my cleaner access safely?
Use a key box or smart lock and share the code privately in the booking chat after you've booked. On HomeHero, your exact address is only shared with the Hero you book.
Can I set up turnovers on a regular schedule?
Yes. Post a recurring task, or choose a HomeHero Premium Airbnb turnover subscription and share your check-out and check-in times so your Hero can plan same-day changeovers.
